Pinky: “Gee, Brain, what do you want to do tonight?” – Brain: “The same thing we do every night, Pinky – try to take over the world!”apparently start-ups as well as companies in the mobility sector are pursuing a similar plan as the popular cartoon characters. They met in Lisbon at the Web Summit 2017 and showed how they will shape the mobility of the future.
smart, connected and autonomous Cars
From BMW to Daimler, Porsche, Toyota and VW: However at the Web Summit 2017 Google’s Waymo and Airbus also presented their vision of mobility in addition to established automotive brands. Whether on the road or in the air, whether with an engine or electric drive – the car of the future should not only be a means of transport, but smart, connected and autonomous. A moving living room, so to speak.
Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Holograms
Language assistants by tech giants such as Google and Amazon provide the required technology. The car manufacturers also showed their work’s fruits, such as the hologram gesture control “HoloActive Touch” by BMW, the chatbot “Ask Mercedes” by Daimler or the “Quantum Supremacy” algorithm by Google and VW, which calculates the road routes of autonomous driving cars. In order to avoid the navigation problem completely, the Volocopter GmbH intends to eliminate the use of roads entirely by shifting transportation to the air. This means that our transport options will continue to improve in the future – and that is also the motto of Ryanair. According to the slogan “Always getting better” the Irish low-cost airline has set itself the goal of becoming the “Aldi in the air” and the “Amazon for the journey”.
On land and sea
Looking even further into the future, man could conquer even more spheres and even shift his motion into space or under water. Thanks to the toy company LEGO and its social media projects “Life of George” and “Kronkiwongi”, this vision is already being tested today. The dream of a flying or floating car could soon become reality – but first of all the navigation should be regulated.
“The future is already here – it’s just not evenly distributed yet” (William Gibson)
In the end, the next web summits will show which start-up or company (or even artificial intelligence) won the race for future mobility world by having the absolute master plan and the best financial model.
